On 7 May 2019, the LME Asia Metals Seminar, a signature event of the LME Asia Week, was held at HKEX Connect Hall in front of 700 professionals from the metals and commodities sectors worldwide to discuss the development prospects of the international commodities market.  As an important part of HKEX Group's commodity strategy, Qianhai Mercantile Exchange (QME) also invited some strategic partners and key customers to participate in the event.

QME invited nearly 60 guests from key industry customers, financial institutions and warehousing companies to participate in a closed-door business seminar, during which they were presented with the business situation of alumina products since the launch, research and development plans for new products, innovative trading models, and the commodities development strategy of the HKEX Group.  After the seminar, QME’s representatives and the guests attended the LME gala dinner together and exchanged their views on the above issues, with most of the participating representatives expressing their eager anticipation and support for the QME platform.

Under HKEX Group’s “BBC” development strategy for commodities business, i.e. "Buy one" – buy LME; "Build one" – build QME; and “Connect” – connecting the commodity platforms of Hong Kong, London and the Mainland, QME serves as one of the major strategic pillars shouldering the responsibility for setting Mainland China’s commodity spot benchmark prices, and exporting these “Chinese prices” so as to compete for a say over global pricing and assist the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
